FAQs

Booking your appointment

How do I book?

The quickest way is online through our booking page, where you can choose your location, style and time. You can also call your nearest salon or simply walk in, though at busy times (Thursday to Saturday) we'd always recommend booking ahead.

How do I know which hair length to book?

We book by hair length to make sure your stylist has enough time to wash, dry and style your hair beautifully.

  • Short: Above the shoulders, including bobs, crops and pixies
  • Shoulder Length: Sits at or around the shoulders
  • Shoulder Blade Length: Falls below the shoulders to the shoulder blades
  • Long: Falls past the shoulder blades

If you're between two lengths, we recommend booking the longer option.

What happens if I book the wrong length or hair type?

Don't worry. Your stylist will assess your hair when you arrive and, if a different service or additional time is needed, they'll let you know before getting started. Your booking and price may be adjusted accordingly.

If the salon is fully booked, we may not be able to extend your appointment, so we recommend booking the longer option if you're unsure.

Do you charge for thick or very curly hair?

Some hair needs a little more time. If your hair is particularly thick or textured, please select the relevant add-on when booking so we can allow enough time for your appointment.

If additional time is required but hasn't been booked, a £10 additional charge may apply.

What's your cancellation policy?

Plans change. You can move or cancel your appointment with at least 24 hours' notice. Cancellations made within 24 hours of your appointment, or no-shows, will be charged 100% of the service price.

Before you arrive

Should I arrive with washed or unwashed hair?

Come as you are. Every blow dry includes a wash and condition at our backwash, with one exception: the Express Blow Dry, which skips the wash to get you in and out quicker. If you've booked an express, please arrive with clean, dry, product-free hair so your stylist can get straight to styling.

Can I bring my own shampoo and conditioner?

We kindly ask that you don't. Our backwash is stocked exclusively with Duck & Dry and professional L'Oreal products, all professional-use formulas our stylists know inside out and trust with every hair type. Using products we know this well is part of how we guarantee a great result. If you have an allergy or a sensitive scalp, let us know when you book and we'll talk you through the options.

What if I'm running late?

Give the salon a call and we'll do our best to accommodate you. As appointments are booked back-to-back, arriving more than 10 minutes late may mean we need to shorten, adjust or rebook your service. The full appointment cost may still apply.

During your appointment

What products do you use?

We use our own Duck & Dry range alongside professional L'Oreal products at the backwash, chosen for how they perform and how they make your hair feel. If you fall in love with Duck & Dry (many people do), you can take it home with you, as our products are available to buy in salon. Occasionally we also partner with third party brands, and in these instances their products may be used during your appointment and, in some cases, be available to buy too.

How long will my appointment take?

Most blow dries take between 30 and 45 minutes, depending on your hair length and chosen style. Updos, occasion hair and longer or thicker hair will take a little more time. Your confirmation email will show the exact duration of your booking.

Can you work with my hair extensions?

Yes, our stylists are trained and experienced in styling all types of extensions, whether tapes, weaves, bonds or clip-ins. Because every set is fitted differently and we can't know its history or condition, we'll always take the greatest care but we can't accept responsibility for any damage to extensions during washing or styling. If your extensions need particular handling, tell your stylist at the start of your appointment.

Do you serve drinks?

Always. Complimentary tea, coffee and still water come with every appointment. And if you're visiting one of our flagship salons, you'll find a bar serving prosecco, rose, sparkling water and more (for an additional charge), because a blow dry with a glass of something cold in hand is simply better.

Should I tip?

Tips are never expected but always appreciated, and 100% of your tip goes directly to your stylist.

Can I eat in the salon?

We'd rather you didn't, for the comfort of guests around you (and the safety of your blow dry). Drinks, on the other hand, we actively encourage.

I have an allergy or a medical condition. What should I do?

Let us know when you book by adding it to your booking notes, or call the salon ahead of your appointment. Our team will talk you through the products we use and make any adjustments we can so you're comfortable throughout.

How are your stylists trained?

Every member of our styling team is a professionally qualified hairdresser. On top of that, they're trained by our in-house education team on the Duck & Dry look book, so every signature style is delivered to the same standard whichever salon you visit and whoever is behind the chair.

Payments

How do I pay?

We're a card-only business. Payment is taken in salon after your appointment by card or contactless, including Apple Pay and Google Pay. We don't accept cash.

Why do you take my card details when I book?

Your card details are taken to secure your appointment and protect our stylists' time. You won't be charged when you book. Payment is taken in salon after your service, unless a late cancellation or no-show charge applies in line with our cancellation policy.

How do you look after my card and personal data?

Your card details are processed and held securely by our payment provider. For full details on how we collect, store and use your personal data, please refer to our privacy policy.

Aftercare and making things right

How long will my blow dry last?

With a little care, your Duck & Dry blow dry can last for several days. Keep your hair protected while you sleep, avoid excess moisture and use dry shampoo at the roots to refresh between washes.

Every head of hair is different, so how long your style lasts will depend on your hair type, chosen style, weather and humidity.

What if I'm not happy with my hair?

Please tell us before you leave the salon. We want you to love your hair, and your stylist will be happy to make any adjustments to your style while you're with us.

If you have any concerns after your visit, please get in touch with the salon directly or email hello@duckanddry.com so our team can look into it for you.

Do you offer refunds on services?

As our services are personalised and completed in salon, we don't generally offer refunds on completed services. If something doesn't feel quite right, please speak to your stylist or salon manager before leaving so we have the opportunity to make it right.

If you have a concern following your appointment, please contact the salon or hello@duckanddry.com and our team will review it with you.

Can I return a product I've bought?

Unopened products in their original packaging can be returned within 28 days with proof of purchase. For hygiene reasons, we can't offer refunds or exchanges on products once they've been opened or used. If a product is faulty, bring it back with your receipt and we'll sort it out.

The extras

Do you do group bookings and events?

We do, and we love them. From hen parties and bridal mornings to brand events and office pamper sessions, we can host your group in salon or bring Duck & Dry to you. Get in touch at events@duckanddry.com and we'll take care of the rest.

Do you sell gift cards?

I have accessibility needs. Can you accommodate me?

We'll always do our best. If you have an accessibility requirement that may affect your visit, email us at hello@duckanddry.com or contact your chosen salon ahead of your appointment. We'll be happy to discuss how we can make your visit as comfortable as possible.

I'd love to work at Duck & Dry. How do I apply?

We're always excited to meet talented stylists and front of house stars. Send your CV to recruitment@duckanddry.com.

Press, partnerships and PR?

For press and partnership enquiries, drop us a line at press@duckanddry.com.

Can I request a specific stylist?

All of our team are fully qualified, so you're in safe hands whoever you're with, but if you have a particular need, like an updo or particularly textured hair, we'll always aim to put you with one of our specialists. If there's anything we should know, pop it in your booking notes or give the salon a call.

Are children welcome?

Children are very welcome when they're having a service. Little ones love a Duck & Dry moment as much as anyone.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes, well-behaved dogs are welcome in our salons, with one exception: our Harvey Nichols and John Lewis locations, where store policy means only assistance dogs are allowed. Ducks, ironically, are never allowed anywhere.
